Dafnis Prieto feat. Luciana Sousa Album Release!
In this special collaboration poised to be a top release of 2022, GRAMMY-winning Cuban-born drummer, composer, bandleader, and 2011 MacArthur “Genius” Fellow Dafnis Prieto unites with GRAMMY-winning Brazilian-born singer Luciana Souza for Cantar, an album featuring songs with music and lyrics by Prieto.
Prieto and Souza are joined by three masterful musicians and improvisers on the album, including Peter Apfelbaum (Woodwinds, Melodica, Percussion, and Keys), Martin Bejerano (Piano), and Matt Brewer (Acoustic and Electric Bass).
Recorded in September 2021, the project is co-produced by legendary GRAMMY-winning producer and Souza’s husband, Larry Klein (Herbie Hancock, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Tracy Chapman, Madeleine Peyroux, Walter Becker, Melody Gardot), and GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY-winning producer Eric Oberstein (Dafnis Prieto, Arturo O’Farrill), Prieto’s collaborator for the past half decade.

Featuring his Chamber Music America commissioned suite #CubanAmerican Suite, other original compositions, and modern reworking of classic Latin American and American Jazz standards.

Honored and thrilled to have performed, written and arranged for this amazing album…Congrats to Roxana, one of my favorite singers in the world, who received 2 Latin Grammy nominations for best Latin Jazz Album of the year as well as Kendal Moore for his arrangement of “Blue in Green”.
COMPOSER COMMISSION FROM MAKROKOSMOS PROJECT!
Martin recently received a commission from the Makrokosmos Project (funded by the Portland based Collaborative Arts and Culture Foundation), and composed/arranged “Petite Corvette Rouge” a piece inspired by Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” and car sounds, to be premiered at the World of Speed Museum. The premier will feature award-winning piano duo (and frequent collaborator with Martin) Stephanie and Saar Duo along with the dynamic Portland Percussion Group!
