12/09/11 | Becca Pulliam, WBGO, Producer of JazzSet with Dee Dee Bridgewater Dear Martin, JazzSet from NPR Music (airs on WDNA) would like to record a performance of your Chamber Music America New Jazz Work. This recording is funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Fdn.
I understand from Jeanette Vuocolo that you are performing it on Dec 19 at the Jazz Gallery. Perhaps you are also performing it on Jan 25 in New York?
I see as well that you're in Chicago this weekend. But perhaps we can email one another, and you can tell me more about opportunities to capture a performance of this work in a recording-friendly location. Thank you, Becca Pulliam
12/08/11 | stacy mcmichael Hey Martin,

Be nice to say hi - it's been a while since U.Miami for sure.
Shoot me a text or email.

11/16/11 | Ron Miller Nice website...
Did you get the package I sent you with my new book? Let me know so I can track it if needed.
11/15/11 | Alberto Dear Martin,
Thanks for your playing in the concert tonight in Madrid. I am the guy that was waiting for all of you at the exit of the concert to congratulate and thank you for the concert. There was something that made me feel really sad. R.H. said that I would sell the cd that Jaleel, David and you signed for me. There is no need to say this but I just wanted to tell you that I would never do such a thing. I am just a guy who loves jazz and that keeps buying cds because at the end of the day he likes to play some nice music at home. I never sold a cd because for me music is something very important. I just wanted to tell you this. And again thank you. Hope to see you soon again in Madrid.
Best regards,
Alberto
11/08/11 | erwin Hi Martin,
What a wonderful concert in Eindhoven last friday and what a total shame there were so few people!
There was one piece, the uplifting gospel-kinda tune after the drumsolo. Can you please tell me which tune that is?
I really really need to know, it was so beautiful!;-)
Peace,
Erwin

07/04/11 | Kamal Belliappa Hi Mr. Bejerano,
Your playing is simply put - GENIUS !!!
Have you ever considered writing a book on jazz improvisation. I find that present-day books do not really impart knowledge on how to play modern jazz piano effectively. Most writers do not really go into how to play modern jazz voicings over tunes and how to reharmonize tunes with a modern touch. They end up being very theoretical and some of the advice provided is not realistic.
A lot of great musicians such as yourself tend to encourage students to discover their own voice and never really explain what practice regimens they went through or what what goes on in their heads when they see a lead sheet.
I hope that, in the spirit of keeping this wonderful music alive, you consider writing a book on modern jazz piano improvisation that covers modern approaches to harmony and improvisation.
Kind Regards,
Kamal

Here's a brief summary of my background as a jazz promoter and my experience in the music industry:
I'm an award winning radio promotion man that has successfully promoted jazz for the past twelve years. From 1999 to 2008, I worked exclusively for Palmetto Records as VP of Promotion.

08/28/10 | PIano Hi Martin,
I recently talked with Daniel Strange about the possibility of taking piano lessons at UM, even though I am a Doctoral Student of Gary Lindsay's.
I explained to Dan that even though my undergrad degree was in jazz/classical piano, I still haven't played for very long and don't feel I'm anywhere near the level of the pianists at UM. Yet, I really want to stretch and grow, especially as an accompanist behind singers (one of my regular gigs).
Daniel set me up to take lessons with you, and I made the rash decision that you were too good for me, and that you would feel like it was a waste of your time. Anyhow, I just now decided that I am not afraid to look foolish... and I would really enjoy the opportunity to stretch, if you're open to taking me as a student.
If not, that's totally cool too.
Thanks for your time. I really enjoy your playing.
Jeremy Fox

I was thinking about you the other day, and discovered your website. Many , many congratulations to you!! I am Dean of Fine and Applied Arts at American River College in Sacramento, CA. Dr. Joe Gilman is a faculty member here and runs the Capital Jazz Project. I would love to get you out to Sacramento. 11/02/09 | Jefferson Hansen I am running a website entitled twincitiesjazzcommunity.com. It should be up in the next couple weeks. I am contacting Roy Haynes and the guys in his band in order to get their thoughts about the Artists Quarter concert on Nov. 20 & 21. Would you be willing to talk to me over the phone? I will also love to talk to you about evolution / revolution.
So far, I have completed interviews with these folks: Marilyn Crispell, Douglas Ewart, Leonard King, Janis Lane Ewart and Erik Friedlander..
I am a serious guy: I am 44-years-old, hold a Ph.D. in English and Philosophy, and have been running a nonprofit literature blog that has gotten recognition. I lost my job, and this site combines my passion, jazz, with the very real possibility of selling enough ads to make a living.
10/29/09 | jefferson hansen I am going to soon be running a website entitled twincitiesjazzcommunity. It should be up in a week or two. Would you be interested in a phone interview about not only your personal work, but your work in the Fountain of Youth band? I am trying to get interviews with all the guys in Roy Haynes' band.

07/16/09 | Dave Stoler Martin-
My name is Dave Stoler. I recently saw a clip of one of your performances with Roy Haynes on youtube from 2005, and enjoyed it very much. I also went to the University of Miami for a Masters Degree in Jazz Piano back in the mid 80's (I presume that you also studied with Vince Maggio). I was also in the Monk Competition back in '87 (the first year they had it) and was in the Jacksonville competition last year. I reside in Madison WI, but will be performing at Smalls in New York on Wednesday, September 30th with a quartet that will include saxophonist Rich Perry, bassist Essiot Okaon Essiot and drummer Clarence Penn. I am planning to debut an entire set of new music on that gig. If you are in town at that time, please stop in, as I would enjoy meeting you in person.
Best Regards,
Dave Stoler

01/03/09 | Mike Wagner Hello, your playing sounds great! I heard from Dennis Pitasi that you would be the new jazz piano teacher at BCC.
I have signed up for Intro to Computer music and it requires an additional music class so I took the half hour Jazz Piano lesson. I was wondering if it might be possible to get the lesson within an hour or two before or after my computer class on tuesday or thursday (it is from 11-12:15), because I have to take the bus to school.
Sorry to bother you, but I am just trying to find out as soon as I can, so that I can plan an alternative class to fulfil the requirements if this one doesn't work out. I believe I have untill Jan.12 to drop and get refund as well. Thanks!
01/03/09 | Max Marshall Hello, Martin. I first heard you on Roy Haynes's "Fountain of Youth" album, and I immediately loved your playing. Do you live or teach in the New York area? Please let me know. I would love to get some lesson time with you if you're available. Best of luck!

It's been about 14 years or so since we've last played together. We'd do some gigs and Waterworks and Andrews in Tallahassee with Vince Gardner, Dwayne White, Greg Williams....me on tenor.

10/24/08 | Michael Wessner Hey Martin. I am so happy to hear of the success that you and Alex Lacamoire are having in the music world. I often wonder what would have happened for me had I gone that route. People are still very taken by the way I sing, and even tell me I should persue singing as a new venture. I guess I could try to sing professionally, but I do have a very strong resume and sales history in the area of real estate.
I recently moved to Orlando to continue my career in Real Estate sales. I landed an amazing job doing international marketing for the up scale Sotheby's Realty firm. My office is in the penthouse of one of Orlando's tallest buildings, and I look out over lake Eola during the day. The only sad part is that I had to leave the home I designed and had built in Jacksonville. Well If you ever want to call and chat and catch up, I would be thrilled to speak with you. 904-444-SOLD (7653)
Maybe now that I am much closer to Miami, I assume you still live there, we could meet up for a coffee or lunch. I do feel that once a friend always a friend. I hope you feel the same way too. I am new to Orlando and meeting new people all the time, but my highschool friends are and will always be dear to me.
I hope your marriage is great and for all I know you may have some mini-martins running around by now.
With warmest regards,
Mike Wessner

I just released a jazz album with vocalist Mariah Hortans. Today I got a message from someone called Ivo Martins in Portugal, requesting a copy. I found almost the exact same message in your guestbook. So what's up with this guy? Does he really promote music in any way, or is he only collecting free cds?
Please reply. Thank you!

10/08/08 | santi quintans Hey Martin,
how are you doing man? I see you are coming to Paris. I am now directing the Jazz progam at the Le Mans conservatory in Le Mans (1 hour away from Paris by train), and I was wondering if you'd be interested in coming to my school and doing some clinics, talking to the students, etc.
Maybe it's a bit too early this time, but tell me what you think. Maybe we'll get a chance to hang out in Paris.
Best,
Santi
10/06/08 | Pat Williams Cool site.
09/27/08 | Kandie Webster Hi Martin,
If you know and have time to tell me...
Who played in your place when the Russell Malone Quartet was at the Rimouski Festival in Quebec.
I want to identify him on Russell's AAJ video section on AAJ. Right now I say his is unidentified, and that is a bit unprofessional.
Did you get rained out today at Bentown?
Thanks so much.
Kandie
09/21/08 | Kandie Webster Hi Martin,
I see that you have upcoming gigs on your page.
It is great to be able to get current info there, and that you list the RMQ members.
Regarding the Jazz Standard dates in December: I don't think you will be there on Monday, December 22, just through Sunday the 21st, according to Tassili. Johnathan's is not current yet. The Jazz Standard website calendar only goes to early November.
I will be placing these dates on the RM AAJ calendar page, and all you guys will be listed as personnel.
Thanks.
Kandie

05/24/08 | Drew Schultz Mr. Bejerano,
My name is Drew Schultz, a drum set jazz performance major at New York University. This summer, I am taking part in a video with Maurice White, from Earth Wind and Fire. For the event, we would like to surprise him by inviting Roy Haynes. Out of all of Maurice's favorite drummers, Mr. Haynes is the only one still performing. I don't know how else to get in contact with him. You can get back to me at
(216) 538 1737
or the producer of the video, Sheila Minard, at
(818) 776 9969
Thanks for the help.
Talk to you soon.

04/27/08 | Dawane Ledbetter I was an undergrad at FSU when you were there and always loved hearing you play. I am currently a national board certified middle school band director with a jazz band. We play as many standards as we can...Miles, Dizzy, Sinatra, Jobim, Monk, Miller, Basie, and so on.
Glad your doing well. Enjoy the ride.
03/18/08 | Leon Anderson Martin, hope this message finds you well. This has been a long time coming, but I wanted to see if you'd be interested in coming back to FSU to be featured as a special guest for our 2009 Jazz festival. the dates are January 16 & 17, 2009. I would like to feature you with our big band on our evening concert on the 17th (Saturday). Of course, if you have big band charts/arrangements we'd love to perform that music with you. We can set up a rehearsal with you on sometime Friday afternoon or even thursday evening if needed. We'll have as much prepared before you get here and we can finalize the music once you're here. The festival will feature high school groups with a concluding concert on Saturday evening with Jazz Ens. I, (hopefully) featuring you.
Our budget is always limited when it comes to this festival....the college of music always supports us very little in this endeavor. And now, with the current economic situation its getting even harder. However, I wanted to see what you would ask for in terms of a fee for your services: rehearsal, a 1 1/2 hour clinic somewhere in there, and the performance? Of course we would also take care of your hotel, and your flight (we could reimburse you if you could take care of your arrangements before-hand). Or, if you drove (which I doubt you'll do from Miami) we can cover your mileage.
Please advise as to whether you'd be interested in this. If you'd like to get an idea of how this festival is hooked up check the web-page at www.music.fsu.edu/jazzfest2008.htm to see how it is set up. Thanks, and looking forward to hearing back from you.

I was blown away by your style when i heard you guys.
i'm writing to you bcause i'm gonna be in nyc the first couple of weeks of january, and i'm trying to get a recording session rolling.
i'd be honoured if you wanted to be part of my project.
so far i got in touch with massimo biolcati on bass and philip dizack on tp. i asked kendrick scott to be on drums, but he's not available; i'll ask ej strickland later today.
jaleel should be on a couple of tracks as well.
if you want to get a rough idea of what i sound like:
http://www.jazzitalia.net/Artisti/florindogrillo.asp
there's an audio file at the bottom of the page.
unfortunately i'm not the best at keeping my things updated: this is a trio tune recorded live about 1 1/2 years ago, but at least you can hear my approach.
if you want some mp3s of what we'll actually be playing, to help you decide if you like the idea, i'll send them to you within the next couple of days.
if you're into it and are available, i'd like to know your cache'.
i was thinking about one 6hour session or two 5hours on two different days. the date/s should be anywhere between jan10th and jan14th, but i still have to get in touch with studios for prices and availability and get piano and drums b4 pulling the strings together..
sorry for lenght of mail, i just wanted to explain the whole situation to you.
thanks for taking the time to read this.
flo

12/01/07 | Martin Diller Hey man, I love your playing. I've been listening a ton to Fountain of Youth, your playing is amazing. I study jazz drums/percussion at the College Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, OH, i've been doing some big band arranging. I plan to arrange Green Chimneys, and I love your solo on that song. I'm planning to transcribe your solo and arrange for like a shout chorus or something. The voicings you use are sick. It's like a great mixture between Monk and Ahmad. You have a great feel and sound.
Just giving you some accolades, before I start stealin your licks. Keep up the great work man. You have a killer name bro by the way.

10/22/07 | Kandie Webster Hi Martin!
I just volunteered to be your profile editor at AAJ, because I told Michael Ricci that you are one of my very favorite piano players.
Check it out. I did not set up the initial bio page, but added the discography thus far, and the CD. I emailed Mark Feldman about it also.
What is your birthday, buddy?
Let me know what video you would like featured on the site, and if you want management/booking info off to the side like on Russell Malone's page.
Any questions? Just email me back.
I also left you a "Welcome to AAJ" message on your comments section.

09/25/07 | Lourdes Delgado Hi Martin,
I am a photographer working in a jazz project for 7 years where more than 400 jazz musicians have participated already.
Below there is an explanation of the project and you also can see a video about it at www.photographychannel.tv
(once there click on "Jazz In New York: A Community of Visions" )
The photo session itself would take less than 1 hour since I only take one final picture. The process is collaborative (first I use Polaroids and I do not take the picture until the person feels ok with it).
I hope you like it and please, let me know if you would like to participate.
Thanks for your time.
Lourdes Delgado
Jazz in New York: A Community of Visions is a record of the jazz scene at this moment in time in the most important place for jazz. It takes New York musicians away from the stereotypical locations so common in jazz books and iconography —the bandstand or studio— to show them in a more personal and revealing space: their homes. It offers an alternative view to the typical media image of the jazz musician as the mysterious hero, or outcast, clearing up the misconceptions about the life of a professional musician and providing a social context for the general public to identify with.
I use a large format camera to create images very rich in detail. Fighting against the tendency of the viewer to merely pay attention to the person depicted, and often just to the face, I compose the photographs trying to give all the components similar weight. My portraits focus on the subjects but also on everything around them —the structure of the room, the quality of the light, and the objects themselves—. They provide meticulous data for future analysis.
I started this project in 2000. I have over 400 jazz portraits of all different ages, genders, background, instruments, and musical approaches. My project is neither focused exclusively on famous musicians, nor on a particular style of jazz —Avant-garde, Mainstream, Dixieland, Post-bop, Free-jazz, Big Band, Latino, World Music, etc—. I intend to portray this community with the belief that each individual, whether on a larger or small scale, contributes to the overall.
I select new subjects following a criteria based mostly8 on the recommendations of their peers. Once photographed, I ask the subject to suggest three or four people to include, musicians they like to play with, or people in the industry that they know. Their broad selections prove the cultural and creative richness of the current jazz. They include people of different ages, genders, backgrounds, nationalities (i.e. Lionel Loueke, Benin; Luciana Souza, Brazil; Candido Camero, Cuba; Avishai Cohen, Israel), instruments and musical approaches.
I have photographed jazz icons like Ron Carter, recognized bandleaders like Regina Carter, the under-represented rhythm section players like Larry Grenadier, and very importantly, a large number of young upcoming artists like Miguel Zenón, registering significant information for research in later stages of their careers.
I have also photographed non-musicians such as club owners (Lorraine Gordon, of The Village Vanguard), recording engineers (Joe Ferla), record producers (Bruce Lundwall, Blue Note records), promoters (George Wein, founder of the Newport Jazz Festival), scholars (Robert O’Meally, Jazz Studies at Columbia University) and critics (Ben Ratliff from the New York Times). This category will represent 10 percent of the total.
I work with a 4x5 camera and black and white negatives. My exposures are normally longer than one second.
Apart from the environmental approach I mentioned above, to avoid the pitfalls of early visual anthropology where "staged compositions enact unstated ideologies and betray unconscious wishes"2, I encourage the sitters to make decisions about how they want to be represented. Under my direction, each person stages the shot, decides on the room, the objects to include, and his/her posture and expression. Sometimes they ask for their spouse or kids to be included. We use Polaroid tests until we agree on everything. Before I take the final image, the person knows exactly how it will look. I bring the concept of the project and I decide the framing of the picture, but the subjects are totally engaged in self-representation. The result is in some aspects very close to a self-portrait.
Another distinctive feature is that, for the master shot, I take just one picture -- two negatives of the same image to be precise. As in jazz, I accepted the results with its achievements and mistakes. This fast and decisive method allowed for spontaneity, honesty, and immediacy not found in posed portraits, especially those that use long exposure times.
Although this project is not finished, it has been partially exhibited in New York at The Jazz Gallery, Brooklyn Music School and Brooklyn Public Library Central Branch, in New Jersey at jazz radio station WBGO, in Ohio at Sinclair Community College, in Connecticut at Three Rivers Community College and in New Mexico at Eastern New Mexico University, and in Texas at Amarillo College.
In 2009, Jazz in New York: A Community of Visions will travel as a companion exhibit of The Jazz Loft Project, a multi-faceted documentary project based on 40,000 photographs and 3,000 hours of tape recordings made by W. Eugene Smith in a New York loft between 1957 and 1965. The Jazz Loft Project is being conducted by the Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) at Duke University, under the direction of Sam Stephenson. It will include the publication of a book, an internationally traveling exhibition, public concerts, a public radio series, and a documentary film. http://www-cds.aas.duke.edu/jazzloft/
For a video on my project, please visit http://photographychannel.tv.

07/18/07 | Kandie Webster Hi Martin,
Thank you for your email verifying that you are at the Detroit Jazz Fest with The Russell Malone Quartet on September 2. I aread marvelous things about the Montreal Jazz Fest. And a 'little bird' told me he went to see you at Dizzy's last night, taking the train into 'The City."
I also wanted to let you know that I received my two copies(probably two of the first, as usual) of Live At Jazz Standard Volume Two over a week ago! I had a difficult time with the difference in it compared to Volume One at first listen, but now I have a favorite -- Playground -- your piano solo on that is wonderful! My second favorite song is For the Love Of You.
And what a surprise in Don't Point That Over Here! It was very interesting to hear that 'free jazz' style from all of you guys.
07/10/07 | Kandie Webster Hi Martin,
I just checked your tour page... Aren't you with the Russell Malone Quartet on September 2 at the Detroit Jazz Festival?
Just wondering. I have listed you as the piano player.
Please let me know if you are not going to be there.
Kandie Webster
06/29/07 | Colin Hello Martin, I'm Colin from Clefnote @ www.clefnote.com. I love your sound. Please check out my site for additional promotions and distributions and let me know what you think. Thanks..
06/27/07 | Mark Just found out I leave the 8th of July. We better hang before I leave (no Florida shows at all this tour. I wanted to hook your peoples from home up)
06/24/07 | Dan Feiszli Hey Martin, good to hear from you! Man, it's been awhile, hard to believe it's been that long. Sounds like you're doing great, are you keeping busy with Roy Haynes and Russell? On the road a lot?
I'm still in the Bay Area, got married last year and I'm doing a mix of gigs and recording engineer / producer stuff, mostly local with the occasional tour. Things are pretty good, keeping pretty busy and doing some cool stuff. Jon Arkin, Joe Cohen, Joel Behrman and Matt Heulitt are all out here, and I see all of them on gigs from time to time (Jon more often than the rest).
Anyway, great to hear from you, it'd be cool to see you and do some playing and catch up sometime -- let me know if you're out here for anything!
Take care,
Dan

06/07/07 | Mason Reed Hey Martin - long time no talk. As in, 20 years! I just got a call from my mom saying she heard you on NPR. Congrats on that. I'm back living in Miami again after being gone for many years - I'll have to keep my eyes on your tour dates so I can catch a show in Miami the next time you are playing here. My physical therapist is Rani Yacoub, speaking of small world. We bring up your name all of the time. Hope all is well with you, brother. Talk soon. -Mason
06/03/07 | Rosi Beckman Martin,
I recently worked with former colleague of yours. Kevin Sanders and I were working on Oklahoma together (he doing mucial direction and i choreographing) and we discovered, yet again, what a small world it can be. Congratulations on all your successes. It is good o see that you are doing so well.
Your old friend, Rosi
06/03/07 | kandie Webster Hi Martin,
I was visiting your Itinerary page again, and noticed that you were with Roy Haynes on July 20-21 when the Russell Malone Quartet is peforming at Jazz At The Bistro for the new CD release party.
I COULD HAVE SWORN THAT WAS NOT THERE A FEW DAYS AGO WHEN I WAS PUTTING THIS TOUR DATE ON RUSSELL'S CALENDAR. Now we have two MIA's. No Johnathan either -- he is in Spain with Walter Smith III.
No questions, just an observation (unless you know who is taking your place as a piano player abd can tell me).

I am a photographer. I have been working in an image project, Jazz in New
York: A Community of Visions, for more than five years. More than three hundred musicians in NY have participated already. Some is people you play with like Jimmy Heath and Strrickland.
Would you mind to read the below description of this project and let me know if you would be interested ? It would take only one hour (as maximum) of your time. I only take one picture and it is a collaborative process.
Thanks a lot for your time.
I look forward to hearing from you.

>> record producers, promoters, scholars, and critics, all of who tend to be
>> overlooked in historiography.
>>
>> Right now I have more than 300 jazz portraits from all different ages,
>> genders, background, instruments, musical approaches, and economic levels.
>> My project is not focused on famous musicians only, nor on a particular jazz
>> scene ‹avant-garde, mainstream, Dixieland, post-bop, free-jazz, big band,
>> Latino, etc‹. I intend to portray this community with the belief that each
>> individual, whether on a larger or smaller scale, contributes with something
>> positive.
>>
>> Since the end of 2004, I have organized (and I will continue organizing) a
>> few exhibits for such venues as public libraries, music schools, a jazz radio
>> station, and college and community galleries in New York and around the
>> country. They are a small selections of the entire project but they keep the
>> spirit of diversity that the project has.

>>
>> In 2009, Jazz in New York: A Community of Visions will travel as a companion
>> international exhibit of The Jazz Loft Project, a multi-faceted documentary
>> project based on 40,000 photographs and 3,000 hours of tape recordings made
>> by photographer W. Eugene Smith in a New York loft between 1957 and 1965. The
>> transferred recordings reveal high sound quality and extraordinary musical
>> and cultural content, offering unusual documentation of an after-hours New
>> York jazz scene. Smith wrote 139 names of jazz musicians on his partial,
>> haphazard tape labels: famous stars like Thelonious Monk, Zoot Sims, Roland
>> Kirk, Bill Evans, Chick Corea, Roy Haynes, and Lee Konitz, along with
>> underground legends like drummer Ronnie Free, bassist Henry Grimes, drummer
>> Edgar Bateman, multi-instrumentalist Eddie Listengart, and saxophonist Lin
>> Halliday, as well as many unknowns. Early research on the preserved tapes
>> indicates that at least 300 different musicians are represented. Monk was
>> recorded in private collaborations with Hall Overton, a loft resident, and
>> full band rehearsals for now-famous concerts at Town Hall, Lincoln Center,
>> and Carnegie Hall in 1959, 1963, and 1964. This project is conducted by the
>> Center for Documentary Studies (CDS) at Duke University, under the direction
>> of Sam Stephenson. You can read more about it at
>> http://www-cds.aas.duke.edu/jazzloft/
>>
>> CDS asked me to participate with them because they feel my project will prove
>> to the general public that jazz nowadays is still well alive, not just
>> something of the past.
>>
>> I hope by then also I can get a book publisher interested in the project. The
>> book will be a selection of 200 portraits. Their order will highlight the
>> differences and/or similarities of living spaces, giving the viewers the
>> possibility to withdraw their own conclusions about the jazz community and
>> about more anthropological and social issues.

04/18/07 | Mike Shapiro Hey Martin, I am not sure if you remember me but I got a few lessons from you while you attended FSU Music School, I OWE YOU SOME MONEY! You ended up leaving town before I could catch up with you and give you your money for the great lessons. This was so long ago and I thought I would never be able to get in touch but I found you watching Roy Haynes on utube. You sound GREAT and I am glad your career is going so well. I am not sure how much I owe ya but I would be glad to send you a check etc... This is from 1996 or so and I am sure the interest is astronomical but hey.... Thanks again for the couple of hours you spent with me in the music school pratice rooms I really appreciate it. Take care
04/16/07 | Russell Mofsky Hey Martin. Don't know if you'll remember me. From Miami back in the day. Hng out with Dave Siegel, Howad Karp, Gregg Fine. Maybe the last time I'd have seen you would have been at one of JB Dyas' Christmas Parties in the mid-90's. Anyhow, I came across you on the web quite accidentally. How cool! Your music sounds awesome. I wish I'd have known you were playing at Scullers in Boston sometime ago. I came up here to attend New England Conservatory over 10 years ago and have remained active here. If a picture would help jog your memory try www.myspace.com/mofsky No worries if I've slipped into the recesses of memory. It has been a while. You know how to get in touch with Dave Siegel? Be well. Cheers, Russell
04/12/07 | John Escreet Hey Martin! Nice site dude, looks very familiar! I just redesigned mine (johnescreet.com) but I swear I didn't model my site on yours - even though it looks pretty similar! Haha! Anyway man, the music on here sounds killing! Was great hearing you at the Vangurad with Roy a couple of weeks ago. Hope we get chance to maybe do a two piano hang one of these days! Take care man. See you soon - JE
04/08/07 | Kandie Webster Martin...I LOVE your new music! I listened to it while I was cleaning a friend's house for THREE hours, putting track #4 on repeat for awhile. That is my favorite right now. It is a different jazz sound than what I am used to, but there is just something about the way in which you play that touches me...must be that "Batman" thing that Russell is talking about in the liner notes. Nice analogy, by the way.
I came home and gave it to Ashley. If she likes it, she gets to keep it. That means I have to order another one for myself. That's a good thing.
Oh, and I liked your original compositions very much. What does track #2 mean? Ashley is learning Spanish, but she is not familiar with the second word in the title?
It was shipped out SO FAST from Reservoir and packed so nicely. No way was I going to wait for an Amazon pre-order!
Take care, Mr. piano fingers.
Wishing you much success and happiness.
Kandie Webster in Washington State/jazzylover
03/30/07 | Kandie Webster Hi Martin -- I am so excited to get an email (google alert) about your new CD being available. I emailed Resevoir and asked about the ship date. I noticed Amazon has a pre-order status. Can't wait to hear it. The track line-up sounds great! I hope Ashley likes your playing as a leader as well as she likes you with Russell Malone on Live At Jazz Standard...Jazzy Cheers from Kandie Webster in Washington State/jazzylover59
03/20/07 | Charley Gerard I'm going to hear you tomorrow. You sound great! I'm the director of the Broken Reed Saxophone Quartet. http://home.pipeline.com/~cgerard/brokenreedsaxophonequartet/
03/17/07 | Jaleel Hey man,
Congrats on the new cd and the website! It's always a pleasure to play with you and I look forward to the hit at the Vanguard next week! - LEEL
P.S - I'd swear you were 18 in that main pic!
03/13/07 | Damon Hey Martin, Happy Birthday! I tried to call and then I realized you are in Germany. That is 6 hours ahead of me in NY, which means to me, you are in the future! Hope you have a great day and I hope to catch up with you when you get back.
03/12/07 | Nicky Orta Hey Martin,
Nicky here. I remember asking you about your availability for a jazz bruunch gig in April. I don't remember if I asked you your availablilty for Sunday, March 25 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. (When you get to be my age, the memory starts playing tricks on you!) Please get back to me when you get a chance and let me know. Thanks Martin!
03/09/07 | Kandie Webster Hi Martin, I am very happy to see your website. I met you at Yoshi's last year with the Russell Malone Quartet. I thoroughly enjoyed your playing live. Tassili and Russell both are supposed to pass on compliments to you from me about your wonderful contribution to Live At Jazz Standard Vol 1. If they have not, here they are firsthand. I can't wait to get your new forthcoming CD. My daughter, Ashley, (the one who loves Benny Green!) loves the way you play on Russell Malone's Live at Jazz Standard Vol. 1, especially "Mean Streak." I am hoping Ashley will also enjoy your CD.
I hope I am being helpful by telling you that the word "personell" should be spelled "personnel" here on your website. I hope you come to Yoshi's again soon so I can fly in and see you all again.
Kandie Webster, a Russell Malone fan and friend, aka jazzylover59.
